WALTON — Southeastern School Corp. is now Lewis Cass Schools, the school board approved Wednesday night.

The name change comes as the final move in the re-branding of the Cass County school district, superintendent Tim Garland said. In June, the board changed Lewis Cass Jr.-Sr. High School to Lewis Cass High School for grades nine through 12 and Lewis Cass Junior High School for grades six through eight as well as Thompson Elementary School to Lewis Cass Elementary School.

"It's just one more step for Lewis Cass and what we do," Garland said after the Aug. 16 school board meeting.

A reconfiguration of the district has been underway over the past several months. The former Galveston Elementary School building will change into the Lewis Cass Polytechnic Academy, which is set to open fall 2018. The academy will offer career and technology education pathways and courses, such as manufacturing, robotics and agriculture.

Lewis Cass closed on a $10 million bond on Aug. 9, Garland said, that'll pay for the reconfiguration, which also includes classroom upgrades and other building modifications.

Garland said the Indiana Department of Education only needs a form filled out and turned in before Sept. 1 that shows the school board took action and OK'd the new name. Garland said he plans to change the tax ID for corporation bank accounts, which takes about 30 days, as well as get quotes to change the school buses, website, email addresses and other documentation.
